Career opportunities for transitioning veterans
Updated: Jan 8
At Stryker, we appreciate the values, leadership and teamwork veterans bring to the work we do. Our South Pacific team partners with WithYouWithMe (WYWM) to connect ex-military talent with Stryker hiring managers, which is how veterans Marcus and Shaun joined our Stryker family.
Marcus and Shaun both served in the 7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (7 RAR), and searched for meaningful career opportunities when transitioning to the civilian workforce.
Here’s how they found a new mission – to make healthcare better.
“I left the Army without any real plan, so I studied and found myself on the job hunt for a few years. I attended the WYWM Career Expo in March 2019 and saw the Stryker booth. The technology and equipment in today’s medical industry is fascinating, so Stryker piqued my interest.
I went home, did a Google search on Stryker and found myself wanting to contribute. I landed an interview through WYWM for the position of Lead Communications Installer. I now install the latest Stryker operating theatres in Australia and New Zealand.”
“I was a qualified electrician before enlisting in the Army, so I worked as an electrician for a few months after discharging in 2018, but quickly realised I needed something new.
I was in regular contact with WYWM about employment opportunities available in Adelaide and Stryker was recommended as a first choice.
As a Field Service Engineer, I combine my electrical experience with mechanical skills to ensure Stryker products work as they should for our customers. A typical day can involve working in an operating theatre, on an ambulance or in a rural area. Every day is different and it’s a very rewarding role.”
