From receptionist to sales rep
Myriam Muñoz joined Stryker in 2001 in Santiago, Chile as a receptionist and has since held roles in foreign trade, warehouse logistics, and sales. We sat down with Myriam to learn more about her career path and experience at Stryker over the past twenty years!
Why did you choose Stryker?
I think that more than choosing to work at Stryker, it was a matter of destiny and that is why Stryker has so much meaning for me. At the age of 21, I did not know how important this company was and what it would mean in my work life and personal life. It is a company where you can be your best self.
What do you love about Stryker?
I love that we are a TEAM and we are all very committed to our work and the company’s mission. I realize that every day that we get up and go to work is for a very noble cause.
Tell us about your career path.
I started my professional career very young - I joined Stryker when I was 21 years old.
In 2001, I started working in the administrative area as a receptionist, after that, I was responsible for the Import Department (Foreign trade).
In 2010 I was promoted and took over the leadership of our warehouse as a Logistics Supervisor. That was a great challenge because I was in charge of a group made up only of men. For me, it was a beautiful experience in which I learned all kinds of things.
Finally, in 2014, I became part of the select group of sales reps in the MedSurg area. Of my almost 6 years as a Sales Representative, I have been a Quota Achiever for 5 years and last year I won the Master Quota Achievers award in Instruments and became part of the Elite Sales Club of Instruments. All this thanks to the support and trust that Stryker has given me and my family.
What are some challenges you face in your role?
I think one of the main challenges is for society to take you seriously. As a woman, you find many barriers, especially in sales, but at the end of the day that is the reason to continue fighting and demonstrating that, as women, we are capable of fulfilling very important roles and contributing so that every day we are better as a company, better professionals and better people. I am also the mother of a child who is almost two years old. Being a mom and a professional working woman is difficult but not impossible.
Why do you remain at Stryker?
Because I love Stryker! For me, Stryker is a family that over the years is getting bigger and bigger. I truly identify with the work and values and that leads me to commit to my work every day and to Stryker, which welcomed me almost 20 years ago.
