Explore our Research and Development disciplines:

Industrial Designer

Industrial Designers are at the forefront of creating products that reflect the needs of our customers. They focus on understanding the challenges faced by doctors, nurses and patients and then ideate on products and solutions to solve these. They work with Marketing, Engineering and Portfolio Managers to develop products that deliver both form and function, improving the experience for patients and their healthcare professionals.

Materials Engineer

Materials Engineers partner closely with Product Development teams to test and analyze materials used in the medical device design to help make sure they’re safe, effective

and meet regulatory and industry standards. This involves conducting tests to evaluate how materials respond under different conditions, providing insights into their potential use in real-world medical settings.  They also collaborate with Engineers and Designers to select materials for new products, helping to improve patient care and the overall performance of medical devices.

Modeling and Simulation Engineer

Our Modeling and Simulation Engineers evaluate how medical devices and systems will perform in the healthcare setting by creating digital prototypes. They build testing environments based on real-world conditions, convert medical imaging datasets to Computer-Aided Design (CAD) files and simulate scenarios. This helps teams identify potential issues and refine designs before physical prototypes are made, supporting safe and effective products.

Test Engineer

Test Engineers accelerate development by experimenting with prototypes and testing designs across the R&D process. They simulate real-world use, build custom test equipment and automate processes to generate data that teams use to evaluate design quality and reliability.

Packaging Engineer

Packaging Engineers focus on creating, maintaining and improving packaging designed to meet internal and external requirements. They lead reviews, guide packaging development and apply technical expertise on designs to meet internal standards and ISO11607 compliance. Their work helps ensure products are delivered safely and responsibly.

Product Engineer

R&D Product Engineers lead and support cross-functional teams in designing, developing and improving medical device products. Their key responsibilities include writing specifications, developing test methods, designing fixtures and ensuring compliance throughout the product lifecycle. The role also involves implementing design changes to enhance performance, safety and cost-efficiency on commercial products. This includes material updates, adapting to new standards, resolving product issues and supporting manufacturing transfers. These engineers contribute to strategic initiatives within the R&D organization to guide product direction and innovation.

Product Security Engineer

Product Security Engineers manage vulnerability processes for Stryker products and coordin

ate incident response when needed. They develop strategies to strengthen product security, improve processes and guide technologies that help protect patients and healthcare providers.

Project Manager

In some Divisions, R&D Project Managers support projects through detailed planning and efficient execution. They are responsible for overseeing the project timelines, budgets and quality plans and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery. They also develop risk mitigation strategies to help keep the team on track and aligned with business goals.
